Sri Lanka’s Manju Wanniarachchi had been performing aggressively in his 56kg Bantam weight and had reached the Semi Finals in the category. In the Pre-Quarter Finals Wanniarachchi showcased an astonishing victory over Seychelles’s Andrique Allisop by 23 – 3 in a three round fight. In his Quarter Final match, Wanniarachchi defeated his Kenyan counterpart Nicholas Okoth by 10-1 & ensured that he’s highly capable of grabbing a medal in his event.
This afternoon Wanniarachchi would be competing for the Silver medal, with Botswana’s Tirafalo Seoko in their semi final match. The other bantamweight semi final will be contested between Sean McGoldrick of Wales and Louis Julie of Mauritius. Both Chaminda Tennakoon and Kamal Sameera could not come up with their unique performances as expected. In a recent interview, Sri Lanka’s Boxing manager and former president of the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka Dian Gomes stated, that Manju Wanniarachchi carries the required potential to showcase a significant medal winning performance for Sri Lanka.
