MAS : Mercantile Swimming Champions!
Slimline wins Layton Cup!
R. M. A. B. Gunathilaka of
Slimline SC made his mark in the Layton Cup history when he won the
championship in the Layton Cup Boxing Championship which worked off at
Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo yesterday. R. M. A. B. Gunathilaka
competing in the Light Weight Under-60 Kgs weight class category overcame T. D.
N. Jayakody of Sri Lanka Air Force 13 points to nine to win the Layton Cup in
this year’s championship. D. S. K. Fernando of SL Navy who lost to R. M. A.B.
Gunathilaka in the semi-final in the same weight class category was named as
the best loser in this year’s championship. Meanwhile in the women’s category,
S. P. Gunethti of SL Police won the Bantam Weight Under-54 Kgs weight class
category and was named as the best female boxer. Gunethti’s competitor B. N.
Erandi of Thuruli BC finished as the best female loser. The event was organised

MAS : Mercantile Swimming Champions!
MAS successfully out-swam arched swimming rivals John Keells Holdings to win the Mercantile Swimming Championship held last evening at the Thurstan College Pool.
MAS dominates in all disciplines and were unfortunate to be disqualified in two relay events which could have only extended their lead further.
This year the team was captained by Imran Isphahani a former Thomian Coloursman in the sport.
